Spring Storm

Spring Storm

Last Thursday and Friday we broke the daily rainfall records in Boise, and on Friday as the rainfall turned to snow, we broke a 1969 snow record for daily snow in April with 2.1″ of snowfall, according the to the National Weather Service. This spring storm caused havoc to our budding and flowering trees and saturated soils around town causing many branch tear-outs and root failures.

With change comes opportunity – we decided to create a circular economy, and instead of allowing the broken branches and fallen trees become waste we gathered them for the next round of hugelkultur garden beds at school. Wood debris is a main component in building the gardens and there was plenty to be found. Our neighbors around my house and the school were grateful for the help clearing the debris from their property and we will be able to repurpose it to a great use.
